Mathesiusit - new extremly rare mineral from Jáchymov
One of the freshly described uranium minerals from Jáchymov is also extremly rare mathesiusite. Its chemical composition can be expressed like K5(UO2)4(SO4)4(VO5).4H2O and mathesiusite has a new specific structure type.
Mathesiusite was named after evangelic priest Johann Mathesius, which worked in Jáchymov in 16th century. It occured only in association with adolfpateraite. It forms small very light yellow-green needles or more rarely accicular aggregates. It was found on the majority of adolfpateraite specimens, but it is very inconspicouous. This mineral was marked by No. IMA 2013-046. It was described by author collective of Jakub Plášil on the material collected in history by J. Hloušek on the 5th level of the Svornost shaft, Geschieber vein (Plášil et al. 2013). It was not found from that time on another material.
Yellow-green accicular aggregate of mathesiusite together with yellow adolfpateraite crystals. Jáchymov, Geschieber vein, 5th level, Svornost shaft. FOV 2,5 mm.
